Volunteers Needed

Please help us.  We all know that Woodland Hills is a great place to live.  But it isn't a very tight knit community.  We are working hard to change that.
In order to continue our progress, we need you.

We need you to help us say hello to our residents, and make them aware of our neighborhood organization by knocking on every door in this neighborhood to promote our organization.  (Did you know we only have email addresses for 40% of the homes in our neighborhood)

I know it seems like a tough thing to do, going to a strangers door, and if we were selling subscriptions to the Saturday Evening Post, you'd be right.
But all we are doing is trying to raise awareness of the neighborhood association.  You'd be surprised how happy residents are to meet a new neighbor.

We can't cover the neighborhood by ourselves--PLEASE volunteer to help us meet each of our neighbors face to face.

The dates of the drive are:
April 17th 2-4pm
April 24th noon-2pm
May 1st 11am-1pm
If you are available to help us, let me know.  Whether you can do one day or all three, your help is critical to moving this neighborhood forward.

Thanks for volunteering.

Sincerely,
Brad Grulke

BriarVista Elementary Update: Removed from list of possible schools closing

Per the AJC article this morning, Dekalb County-which is closing at least 4 elementary schools this summer-has removed BriarVista Elementary from the list of possible schools to close.

http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb/10-schools-remain-on-420627.html

BriarVista Elementary is critical to our subdivision in many ways.

A lot of residents don't know much about the school.  Therefore, in the next few months I intend to get information to you from teachers, parents, and the principal of BriarVista Elementary.

DeKabl Budget Cuts / Briar Vista Elementary

I've taken this excerpt from the Briar Vista Elementary PTA website.  There has been a lot of concern because Briar Vista Elementary is on the "short" list of DeKabl schools to be potentially closed.  The below information is to inform and to get you involved.

Important DeKalb Budget Cuts Information

This has been a rocky couple of months for Briar Vista and the DeKalb County Board of Education.  A group of BVS parents has been very involved with the DeKalb County Board of Eduction budget process and have joined together with other Montessori schools to keep the Montessori method of learning safe in our county.  The good news is that our efforts have paid off.  The Board of Education has taken Montessori off of the table and it WILL still be in DeKalb County schools next year.

The next obstacle faced by Briar Vista is that we have been put on a short list of schools slated for possible closure next year.  It is thought that between 4 and 12 schools will be closed.  We are hopeful that Briar Vista will not be one of them.

The best thing to come of all of this turmoil is that our Briar Vista community is joining together.  If we continue to present a united front, we have a great chance of keeping our school here in our neighborhood - and the program will be stronger as a result.

What can you do to help?
