Dekalb County Residential Single-Stream Recycling

Residential Single-Stream Recycling

Single-stream curbside recycling is a FREE subscription service offered to DeKalb County residents by the DeKalb County Sanitation Division. Recyclable materials are collected on residents’ scheduled sanitation collection service day.

The DeKalb County Sanitation Division no longer offers 18-gallon bins and 40-gallon bags as part of the residential single-stream recycling program. A new standard 35-gallon roll cart replaces the bins and bags. While the Division is moving toward the two roll cart options, existing subscribers with 40-gallon bags can continue using them until their inventory is fully depleted. Existing subscribers with 18-gallon bins must trade them in by December 28, 2018, for a 35- or 65-gallon roll cart. This change offers recycling subscribers a more practical and durable recycling container, and allows for safer and more efficient curbside recycling collection using automated collection vehicles.

The Division is committed to accommodating residents with approved collection service for disabled residents (back-door collection service), and senior citizens facing significant challenges with completing the roll cart exchange process in person at the Sanitation Division's administrative office. Other requests from residents with extenuating circumstances that preclude them from completing the roll cart exchange process in person will be reviewed, and a determination will be made on a case-by-case basis.
