BVE Montessori Registration

Families with preschool age children zoned for Briar Vista Elementary (BVE), this message is for you. Dekalb County School District added a FREE class for 3-year-olds at BVE in 2024! Do not miss this amazing opportunity at our neighborhood school! 
Register in-person @ Briar Vista Elementary January 4th to 12th. The class will be held for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year.  There will be another registration in February, for the 2024-2025 school year.
3-year-old Class Registration Requirements:

  • 3-years of age on or before Sept 1, 2023
  • Potty trained
  • Zoned for BVE (all woodland hills residents)
  •  See the QR code in the flyer below for documents required to register

BVE Montessori K-5 School Choice ProgramBVE Montessori (K-5) is a DCSD School Choice lottery-based program, which is available to all of Dekalb County residents. Woodland Hills Dekalb residents must still put in a School Choice application to obtain a spot in the Montessori track at BVE, despite BVE being our zoned school. Please pay attention to the early application deadlines in January of each year. Once enrolled, your child can continue through 5th grade in the Montessori track.

Woodland Hills Filming Notice May 23-26

Filming Notice
We received information that a filming crew will be in our Neighborhood this week. The filming will impact traffic along several streets including Woodland Hills Drive and Vista Trail. There will be traffic control present for the planned full or partial lane closures along parts of Woodland Hills Dr. and Vista Trl. 

The filming production is expected to be in the neighborhood the entire week from Monday May 22, 2023 through Saturday May 27, 2023 with filming scheduled for Thursday May 25th through Friday 26th. Additionally, several residents have received additional letters requesting to rent their driveways during this time.

1493-1501 Lavista Rezoning

The following applications for zoning will be on the agenda in March 2022. This property is in unincorporated Dekalb County, and subject to the County's ordinances for zoning & land use. The first hearing in March is Planning Commission Meeting Date – Tuesday, March 1, 2022 5:30 PM and the second is Board of Commissioners Meeting Date – Thursday, March 24, 2022 5:30 PM. The next Community Council meeting is

  • Tuesday 4/12 Community Council
  • Tuesday 5/3 Planning Commission
  • Thursday 5/26 Board of Commissioners

Applicant proposes rezoning the property from O-I to MR-2 and proposes to build 20 townhomes. According to the applicant, the properties are currently being used for an accounting office and a real estate office. Land use hearing is necessary for the parcel 1493 Lavista currently SUB to change it to NC to go with the parcel 1501 Lavista currently NC.

The LLCC Blueprints study showed a nature path approximately at this location could be an opportunity for a pedestrian connection. As part of support for the proposed rezoning and variance, WHNA has requested that a pedestrian easement be reserved for a future Briar Vista Elementary Safe Route to School Path from Lavista Rd to Franklin Cir. WHNA has also had other discussions with the applicant on building height, traffic considerations, and sanitation
