New Sanitation Schedule

New Sanitation Schedule:
THURSDAYS ONLY
except when it's
MONDAYS ONLY

We hope you had a good 4th of July weekend. WHNA wanted to take a moment this morning to remind you that the new DeKalb Co Sanitation schedule starts this week. Going forward, ALL of your refuse will be collected ONCE a Week.  For those on the West side of the neighborhood, it's collected every THURSDAY, and for those on the East side of the neighborhood, it's collected every MONDAY

At some point soon, DeKalb Co. will be dropping off new green 65 gallon trash cans for each resident.

Lavista Sidewalk Funding Approved

Sidewalk

On Tuesday, May 12, Interim CEO Lee May cast the tie-breaking vote to join commissioners Larry Johnson, Sharon Barnes-Sutton and Stan Watson in providing $39.4 million in reallocated bond funding for various sidewalks, library, greenspace and parks projects.

Commissioner Rader's office let us know that the

BOND money includes work for the sidewalk on LaVista Road between Woodland Hills Drive and Shepherds Lane, and that includes the radius improvement at Woodland Hills.

This is a big win for WHNA, as this was one of the items the WHNA Board brought to their attention some time ago.

Survey Says: Yes, Woodland Hills Is Interested In Joining A City

According to a survey initiated by the Woodland Hills Neighborhood Association earlier this month, 79% of the participants responded that they would prefer to join a city, either be annexed by the City of Atlanta or a new Dekalb city.Annexation into the City of Atlanta was strongly favored, coming in at 67.5% of first place votes, followed by 18% for unincorporated Dekalb and the new Dekalb city with 14.5% of votes. Respondents cited that taxes and schools were the primary drivers in their decisions. Priorities ranked as follows:

  • Taxes 36.5%
  • Schools 35.9%
  • Infrastructure 14.7%
  • Police 10.9%
  • Zoning 1.9%

Many residents expressed concern that the senior exemptions in the city of Atlanta are far inferior to that of Dekalb County. While others cited that keeping the school community intact was of the utmost importance.

Moving forward, it is our goal to engage in discussion with the City of Atlanta and the surrounding communities to further explore all options.
