DeKalb County police have increased patrols around the normally staid Briarcliff and LaVista road area following a 7 a.m. stabbing Tuesday of a woman out for a morning jog.
The 54-year-old woman was exercising on Southland Vista Court at Briarcliff, just south of LaVista in the Briar Vista area, when she was attacked and stabbed "multiple times," DeKalb police spokeswoman Bettina Durant said.
Police have canvassed the neighborhood for clues and have reached out to the community for help, Durant said. Durant would not identify the woman. WSB-TV identified her as Kim Ellen Tunkle, according to her brother Richard Tunkle.
Durant did not provide a description of the attacker.
According to police, a passerby this morning heard the woman cry for help and called 911 while assisting her.
The woman was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable condition, Durant said.
If you have any information or noticed anything unusual this morning, please contact the police immediately.
