SR 400/I-85 Connector Ramps
The Georgia Department Of Transportation (GDOT) has
submitted Early Coordination Requests to the City of
Atlanta's Department of Planning and Community Development
including the Department's Transportation Planning Division
and Urban Design Commission. This same request was also
sent to City Councilmembers. As GDOT explained, "The
Department sends out routine early coordination letters
like these to local government staff as the very first
step forward in studying a project area."

Stop the Horn
"Stop The Horn" represents a group of concerned
citizens who have been working to enact a local "Quiet
Zone" at the Lenox Road crossing in Atlanta, Georgia,
which impacts several in-town neighborhoods, including
Morningside/Lenox Park, Lindridge Martin Manor and Woodland
Hills. This would be the first-ever "Quiet Zone"
in the City of Atlanta.
We've made a lot of progress so far, but now WE NEED

Briarcliff/North Druid Hills
Area Study
Alex Garvin & Associates has been asked to study
approximately 685 acres surrounding the intersection
of North Druid Hills Road and Briarcliff Road in DeKalb
County, Georgia, for the purpose of creating a master
plan. The area of the study is bounded by I-85, Holly
Lane, Cliff Valley Way, and Sheffield Drive. Private
property owners and developers are currently formulating
plans for redevelopment of almost half of this area,
and other property owners within the area may also be
interested in developing their properties. At the request
of Jeff Rader and Kathie Gannon, the County Commissioners
with jurisdiction over this area, the Livable Communities
Coalition has asked Alex Garvin & Associates to
work with stakeholders to create a cohesive plan for
this area, including a public realm framework of roads
and open space.

of concerned residents of Lindridge-Martin Manor, LaVista

and study the issues that face this corridor. They are
embarking on an effort to bring in outside expertise
to help develop a Master Plan for the corridor to have
an influence on the changes that are facing us. For

DeKalb County Comprehensive
Plan 2005-2025
Just received this from the President of the Merry
Hills association. It's the results and plan of a study
of Dekalb County that started in 2004. It's also a mission
statement of sorts of what they want to be by 2025.
The current draft that is to be adopted by the BOC (board
of commissioners) has a major change from that which
the public saw in September: added 3 town centers to
be developed in our immediate area, one each at the
intersections of North Druid Hills and Briarcliff Roads,
LaVista and North Druid Hills Roads, and Briarcliff
and LaVista Roads. Town Centers are the second highest
density development that is possible under the plan.
This will severely impact neighborhoods in and surrounding
these intersections as well as anyone who travels through
the area.
The 3 town centers are designated in purple on page
74 of the January Draft Comp Plan online at http://www.co.dekalb.ga.us/planning/pdf/longRange/CommAgenda_Doc.pdf

Rezoning around Cheshire Bridge
The city is proposing to rezone existing properties
along and around Cheshire Bridge road that are currently
zoned Light Industrial, Commercial, or R-3 residential
to MR-2 or MR-3 or MRC-3 which are variations of multi-family
residential use only with MRC-3 being Multi-Family Resdential/Commercial.
Bascially the city feels that by rezoning this land
to the proposed land use it will spur "mixed use
urban development" to help revitalize the area.
The rezoning most closely affects Woodland Hills by
rezoning some properties along woodland ave and lenox
road.
Changes to Briarcliff Road
The DeKalb County Department of Transportation (DOT)
hosted a public information open house on October 9
about changes to Briarcliff Road that include turn lanes,
signal improvements, and pavement widening. These are
identified as short-term solutions to safety and congestion
issues. The DeKalb County DOT stated they have developed
conceptual plans for changes to the entire Briarcliff
corridor that are currently unfunded, but did not provide
these conceptual plans to the public at the October
9 open house.
Thanks to Flo Wolf, Merry Hills Homeowners Association
President, for making these documents available.
